Birzhankol Lake

This is the smallest of the four lakes located within the Bayanaul State National Natural Park. A small aul with a population of only 56 people is situated on the western shore of the lake. Sandy shores on the north and east of the lake give way to rocky ones on the south and west.

The lake is fed by a river that originates in the mountains and is filled by meltwater in the summer. During the rainy season, the river overflows and fills the lake.

Every 7-8 years, the water level in the lake rises sharply, and then drops by 2-2.5 meters between these events.
