Gori Fortress

Gori Fortress, also known as Goris-tsikhe, is an ancient medieval citadel located on a rocky hill above the city of Gori in Georgia. This historical monument was included in the list of national significance of Georgia in 2007. The first mentions of the fortress are found in written sources of the 13th century, but archaeological findings indicate that fortifications at this site existed as early as the 5th-4th centuries BC. Gori Fortress was severely damaged by an earthquake in 1920.

The citadel is located on a flat hilltop and has a descent to the river on the west. Lower walls on the slopes of the hill surround the fortress from the east and south. There is also a secret passage to the Liakhvi River, from which the fortress garrison received water.
