Mount Ararat. Ararat is a vast volcanic massif in eastern Turkey and the highest point of both the country and the Armenian Highlands. Greater and Lesser Ararat rise above the Aras valley, their summits covered by snow and glaciers throughout the year. The mountain is deeply connected with the memory of historic Armenian lands and remains a powerful cultural symbol. Despite its ice and snow, no major river rises directly from the summit; meltwater drains quietly into the surrounding valleys.
