Old Town of Corfu

The fortress, located in the Greek city of Corfu on the island of the same name, has ancient roots, dating back to the 8th century when its initial structures were laid by the Byzantines. In the following centuries, the fortress was supplemented and modernized by the Venetians and the British, with the last modifications made in the 19th century. Paleo Frurio is situated on the eastern tip of the cape and was built on an artificial island. The Contra-Fossa canal runs between Paleo Frurio and the city. Various entertainment events for tourists are held within the fortress, including performances with Ionian folk dances and light shows.
