Siyavush Pasha Mosque Fatih

One of the largest mosques in Istanbul, located on the European side of the city in the Fatih district, this mosque was built in 1470 on the site of the former Byzantine Church of the Holy Apostles. In 1766, it was completely destroyed by an earthquake, but restored in 1771. Its dome diameter is 26 meters. In the mosque courtyard, there is a cemetery where Mehmed II, the Ottoman sultan and conqueror of Constantinople, is buried in a mausoleum. His tomb is considered one of the most significant shrines in the city. In addition, there is also a madrasah at the mosque where believers are taught.
