Cathedral of Panagia Spiliotissa

The Cathedral of the Metropolis of Corfu is a historic building located in the very center of Corfu Town on the island of Corfu. It was consecrated in honor of the icon of the Mother of God Spiliotissa ("Cave-dwelling"), Saint Blaise of Sebaste, and Blessed Theodora. The cathedral was built in 1577 on the site of an ancient church dedicated to Saint Blaise of Sebaste. In the 18th century, the cathedral building was reconstructed in the Baroque style, giving it a more majestic appearance. In 1841, the cathedral was declared the cathedral church of the Metropolis of Corfu of the Orthodox Church of Greece, which emphasizes its importance and significance for believers.
