Kotavank Monastery

Kotavank, also known as Surp Astvatsatsin, is an ancient church on a hill overlooking the Argichi River and the village of Nerkin Getashen, south of Lake Sevan in Armenia’s Gegharkunik Province. An old medieval cemetery surrounds the church and contains numerous khachkars. The recent expansion of a modern cemetery into the historic burial ground has led to the displacement and rotation of many ancient gravestones and khachkars.
