Metsamor Fortress

The Metsamor archaeological settlement lies southwest of the village of Taronik in Armenia’s Armavir Province. It was once believed that the city had been destroyed by Urartians during the Iron Age, but more recent research suggests Scythian or Cimmerian nomads may have been responsible. The on-site Museum of History and Archaeology opened in 1968 and contains more than 22,000 artefacts, almost all excavated at Metsamor.
