Shavnabada Monastery

Shavnabada Monastery, also known as the Shavnabada Monastery of Saint George, is an ancient Georgian Orthodox monastic complex located on the summit of Mount Shavnabada, a few dozen kilometers from Georgia's capital, Tbilisi. This monastery was dedicated to Saint George, who, according to legend, wore a black cloak (in Georgian: shavi nabadi) when he led the army of the King of Georgia in one of the important battles. It is important to note that Shavnabada Monastery is also famous for its unique wine variety known as Shavnabada, which is produced by the monks living in this monastery.
