Statue of Mimar Sinan. Sinan, whose full name was Abdulmennan oglu Sinaneddin Yusuf, was known as Hoca Mimar Sinan Aga and simply Mimar Sinan. He was born on April 15, 1488, in the village of Ağırnas, near Kayseri, and died on July 17, 1588, in Istanbul. Sinan was one of the most famous architects and engineers of the Ottoman Empire. From 1538, he held the position of chief architect and engineer in the empire.
