Sultan Marshes National Park

Sultan Marshes National Park surrounds Lake Yay in Kayseri Province, between Yeşilhisar, Develi and Yahyalı, about 40 kilometres south of Kayseri. Created in 2006, it includes freshwater marshes, salt flats, wet meadows and small islands ringed by hills and mountains. Reeds, rushes, water lilies, pondweed and bladderwort form quiet pools of clear water. The wetlands shelter flamingos, ferruginous ducks, white-headed ducks, black-necked grebes and many other waterbirds, along with amphibians, reptiles and small fish. Wolves, foxes, rabbits and herds of wild horses live on the surrounding land.

Scenic paths cross the marshes and meadows, and a birdwatching tower provides broad views over the wetlands. A small museum presents the area’s flora and fauna. The park can be reached by bus from Kayseri or Yahyalı.
