Gümüşler Monastery

The Eski Gümüşler Monastery, also known as "Old Silver," is a cave monastery built by the Byzantines in the ancient city of Gümüşler, located just 10 km northeast of Niğde in Turkey. This historical site is easily accessible by bus from Niğde, making it a popular destination for tourists and pilgrims.

After the monastery was reopened in 1962, a group of archaeologists led by Michael Gough carried out restoration work on its frescoes and walls. As a result of these specialists' efforts, the monastery was declared a protected archaeological site in 1973, highlighting its historical and cultural significance.
