Tomb of Turhan Sultan

Hatice Turhan Sultan was the wife of Ottoman Sultan Ibrahim IV, who died on August 4, 1683, in Edirne. She was the mother of Sultan Mehmed and the second Valide Sultan, who ruled the Ottoman Empire as regent for about 5 years. Hatice Turhan Sultan was of Ukrainian origin and was the longest-reigning Valide Sultan in the history of the Ottoman Empire. Her reign also marked the end of the era of women's rule in the empire.
