Ughtasar Petroglyphs

The Ughtasar petroglyphs are ancient rock carvings discovered on Mount Ughtasar, the “Mountain of Pilgrims,” near Sisian in Armenia’s southern Syunik Province. More than 2,000 decorated rock surfaces are scattered across the mountain slopes. The images, some traditionally dated as far back as the Paleolithic period, were carved into dark brown and black volcanic stones left by an extinct volcano.
