Vernensky Fortress

A defensive structure built in 1854-55 in the Russian Empire, known as the Zailiyskoe fortification, played a key role in the history of the city of Verny (now Almaty). The fortress became the epicenter of the Vernensky Uprising of 1920, which left a deep mark on the region's history.
