Clock Tower. The Izmit Clock Tower (Turkish: Izmit Saat Kulesi) in Izmit, Turkey, was built in 1902 by order of Sultan Abdul Hamid II to commemorate his 25th year of reign. This clock tower was one of many built throughout the Ottoman Empire at the time. The order to build the tower was given by the governor of Izmit, Musa Kazım Bey, and the project was designed by architect Vedat Tek. Some sources also claim that Armenian-Ottoman architect Mihran Azaryan was also involved in the design of this tower.
