Old Izmit Railway Station

Izmit Station, also known as Izmit garı in Turkish, is a key railway station in the city of Izmit, located on the Istanbul-Ankara railway line in Turkey. It is situated on the shore of Izmit Bay, adjacent to the D100 highway, and on the western part of Cumhuriyet Avenue. The station was first opened on August 1, 1873, on the initiative of the Ottoman government as part of the railway line connecting Constantinople and Izmit. In 1880, the line was transferred to the management of the Anatolian Railway (CFOA), which continued the construction of the line eastward to the capital, Ankara. In 1927, the railway and the station were taken over by the Turkish State Railways.
