Greek Church of Ayia Kyriaki

This church is dedicated to Saint Kyriaki, the first Christian woman who lived during the reign of Emperor Diocletian (284 – 307 AD). The story associated with this saint is truly fascinating and has a classic plot; Euphemia, Kyriaki's mother, promised God that if she had a child, she would dedicate it to the service of faith. Her prayers were heard, and her daughter was named Kyriaki because she was born on the seventh day of the week.

It is said to be one of the most beautiful churches in Istanbul. The entrance to it is not from the top of the hill, but through a staircase entrance on the lower road. It is also known as the "Staircase Church" because it has two entrances, both with stairs leading to the sanctuaries.
