Horomayr Monastery

Horomayr Monastery, also known as Horomayr Vank, is an ancient monastic complex set into the cliffs of Armenia’s Lori Province. Built between the 5th and 7th centuries, it is regarded as one of the country’s important cultural heritage sites.

The monastery is most conveniently reached from Alaverdi by public transport. From the village of Odzun, which overlooks the complex, visitors can either follow the Debed River or hike south along the cliffs from the final bend in the road to Odzun.

A more extreme route descends directly from the cliffs south of Odzun. It is the quickest option but requires good physical fitness and caution. Whichever route is chosen, a visit to Horomayr offers a memorable experience for anyone interested in Armenian history and culture.
