Sanahin Monastery

Sanahin is an exceptional monument of medieval Armenian architecture and one of northern Armenia’s most important cultural centers. The complex consists of buildings constructed between the 10th and 13th centuries. Sanahin housed a scriptorium where manuscripts were copied, as well as a library and an academy known as a chemaran. The monastery stood in the village of Sanahin, now part of the city of Alaverdi in Lori Province. Together with Haghpat Monastery, it is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, reflecting its outstanding historical and cultural significance.
