Karataj Structure

The caravanserai, built by Jalal al-Din Karatay, Khan of Karatay, on the Kayseri-Malatya road, is an important historical structure. This caravanserai consists of two parts, each with its own unique architecture and functional purpose. The first part of the building features various rooms arranged around a rectangular courtyard, creating a cozy and functional environment for travelers and merchants. The second part, located on the other side, is a smaller, enclosed space that serves more private and secluded needs. The domed section near the entrance is a mosque, where travelers could pray and rest from their long journey. To the east of the mosque is a hammam, where one could bathe and relax after a long trip. This caravanserai was an important place for travelers and merchants, providing them with comfort and convenience during their journeys.
