Shemokmedi Monastery

Shemokmedi Monastery (Georgian: შემოქმედის მონასტერი) is an ancient Georgian Orthodox monastery founded in the 15th century, located in the picturesque village of Shemokmedi in the Guria region of southwestern Georgia. For many years, the monastery served as an episcopal see and a burial place for the princely family of Gurieli. It housed valuable church treasures, as well as an extensive collection of items from other Georgian monasteries.

Part of the collection was stolen in the 19th century, but the items that remained can now be seen in Georgian museums. In 2007, the monastery was recognized as a national cultural monument of Georgia, highlighting its historical and cultural significance for the country.
