Statue of David of Sasun

The monument to David of Sasun, the hero of the Armenian national epic Sasna Tsrer, is one of Yerevan’s best-known symbols. It was created in 1959 by the renowned Armenian sculptor Yervand Kochar and architect Mikael Mazmanyan. The monument depicts the hero on horseback and stands in Railway Station Square. It rises 12 meters high; the equestrian figure is made of hammered copper and rests on a pedestal of basalt blocks. Set at the center of a circular pool 25 meters in diameter, it has an especially monumental appearance.
