Tatev Hermitage. Tatev Hermitage is an Armenian Apostolic monastic complex in Syunik Province near the village of Tatev. Built during the 17th and 18th centuries, it was proposed for UNESCO World Heritage listing in 1995. Its history began when monks left the Arants Hermitage after a destructive 17th-century earthquake. Sources say several earthquakes later damaged the new hermitage as well, yet the monks survived, except for one elderly brother who refused to leave the old monastery and died in the third quake.
