Akçakoca Bey Memorial Tomb

The Akça Koca Bey Memorial Tomb is a place of remembrance for the great warrior Akça Koca, who conquered Kandıra and its surroundings in 1326. After his death, a wooden mausoleum was built on Baba Hill, which became a symbol of his feat. The modern memorial tomb project was developed by the Governor of Kocaeli, Ertuğrul Salla, in 1971. Architect Suat Uygun completed the construction of the tomb in 1974, and it was opened on the day of Kandıra's liberation. This place attracts tourists and historians who wish to learn more about the history of this great warrior and his contribution to the region's history.
