Akkale Fortress

Akkale, which translates to "white castle," is the name given to the ruins of a building complex in the town of Kumkuyu, located in the Erdemli district of Mersin Province, Turkey. This complex, also known as Tirtar Akkale (where Tirtar is the old name for Kumkuyu), is situated southwest of Kumkuyu town. It is only 14 kilometers (8.7 miles) from Erdemli and 51 kilometers (32 miles) from Mersin. To reach these buildings, one must turn off Turkey's D.400 state highway. The distance to the Mediterranean Sea coast is approximately 250 meters (820 feet), making this location even more appealing to tourists and history enthusiasts.
