Andaberd Fortress

Andaberd is a fortress located near the former village of Knaravan in the Kelbajar district of Azerbaijan. It is situated on the summit of a steep mountain, at an altitude of 1665 meters, just 600 meters from the right bank of the Levchay River. To reach the fortress, one must follow a path that runs under the southwestern wall of the fortress from the north side. The fortress was built by Prince Atrnersеkh of the Armenian Syunik dynasty in the 9th century. To the east of the fortress, at a distance of only 800 meters, lie the ruins of the Andaberd Monastery.
