Mount Kapaz

Kapaz is a majestic mountain in Azerbaijan, 3066 meters above sea level, which is the highest point of the Kapaz mountain range. This mountain range serves as the beginning or end of the path through the Murovdag range. The Kapaz arc is 34 km long, starting from the village of Erkech in the northeast and ending at the small village of Toganaly in the northwest. The Kapaz range has a curved shape, with a bulge to the south, and is a rocky watershed between the headwaters of the Kyurokchay River: the left Ilkhydar from the west and the right Buzluk from the southeast, as well as their tributaries and the Seven Lakes system. This lake system was formed after the earthquake of 1139, when debris from the Kapaz rock mass blocked the inner valleys and held back the waters of the headwaters of the Akhsu River, also known as the "White River." One of the largest lakes in this system is Goygol, or "Blue Lake," located in the center of the arc and is one of the most significant bodies of water in this region.
