Bodrum Mosque

The Myrelaion (Greek: Μυρελαίου) is the palace of the Byzantine Emperor Romanos I Lekapenos in Constantinople, built on the site of the "myrrh house" on the shore of the Sea of Marmara. This palace was conceived as a rival to the Great Imperial Palace, which was located just a kilometer away. One of the features of the Myrelaion was a church from the early 10th century, which was built over with modern buildings and currently functions as the Bodrum Mosque (Turkish: Bodrum Camii). The foundation for the construction of Lekapenos' palace was a 5th-century rotunda, which was converted into a cistern with a dome diameter of 41.8 meters, the second largest after the Roman Pantheon.
