Cathedral of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God

The Cathedral of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God in Zugdidi is not only the cathedral church of the Georgian Orthodox Church but also the center of the Zugdidi and Tsaishi Diocese. This church houses many sacred objects, including the robe and part of the belt of the Most Holy Theotokos, the relics of Saint George and Saint John, the hand of Saint Marina, and a piece of the sponge from which Jesus Christ drank vinegar, brought to Georgia from Byzantium after its capture by the Turks in 1453. These relics attract pilgrims from all over the world who wish to worship and honor them in a holy way.
