Tsaishi Cathedral

The Tsaishi Cathedral of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos is a historical site that housed one of the oldest episcopal sees in Georgia. As early as the 6th-7th centuries, an episcopal see existed in this territory, as confirmed by ancient sources. Documents from 602-610 mention the Tsaishi Eparchy in Lazica, indicating its significance during that period. One of the oldest Georgian monuments associated with the Tsaishi bishopric is an inscription on a stone cross from the 10th-11th centuries, which mentions the name of King Bagrat and Tsaishi Bishop Ephrem.
