Makaravank Monastery

Makaravank Monastery in Armenia’s Tavush Province was built between the 10th and 13th centuries and stands six kilometres west of the village of Achajur. It is both a historic monument and an active religious centre.

Makaravank preserves the spiritual and cultural heritage of the historical region of Mahkanaberd. Its buildings are distinguished by refined architecture and exceptional sculptural decoration. The harmony between the monastery and its natural surroundings makes it one of the outstanding monuments of medieval Armenian architecture.
