Nizami Ganjavi Mausoleum

The Nizami Ganjavi Mausoleum was erected on the grave of the great poet Nizami in 1947 and subsequently rebuilt in 1991. This historical monument is located at the northeastern entrance to the city of Ganja, where Nizami spent most of his life and passed away. Initially, the mausoleum was built in place of an old stone structure erected in the 1940s, which, in turn, replaced a destroyed ancient mausoleum. According to academician Barthold, the first mention of Nizami's mausoleum dates back to 1606, however, precise details about its appearance and builders remain unknown.
