Statue of the Woman of Karabakh

The Monument to the Woman of Karabakh, known in Armenian as Gharabaghtsi Kine, was installed in 1988 beside the Armenian National Opera and Ballet Theatre at the intersection of Sayat-Nova Avenue and Teryan Street. Donated by the Armenian Cultural Foundation, the work was created by sculptor David Yerevantsi and inspired by the dancer and singer Arev Baghdasaryan. Soviet authorities initially prevented its installation, and it remained in a foundry for two years before being placed near Swan Lake after the beginning of the Karabakh movement.
