Surp Nshan Church

Surp Nshan is an ancient Armenian church located in Tbilisi, on Serebryanaya Street, in the historic Old Town district. Its history and affiliation are subjects of dispute between the Armenian and Georgian churches. The existing building was constructed between 1703 and 1711 and was subsequently restored in 1780. In 1795, the church was severely damaged during the invasion of Aga-Mahomet Khan, and services have not been held there since. Following fires in 2002 and 2012, as well as a flood, the church is in a ruined state. New construction is currently planned in close proximity to the church building.
