Urartian Fortress

The ruins of an Urartian fortress stand on Didikond hill in the village of Oshakan, five kilometres southwest of Ashtarak, on the right bank of the Kasagh River. Its walls were built from large, carefully dressed blocks of tuff and reinforced with projecting sections and small rectangular towers.

Inside were a courtyard and a hall surrounded by rooms. Excavations on the western side uncovered a square temple supported by corner towers. The two-storey complex is an important archaeological monument of the Urartian period.
