Zoravor Surp Astvatsatsin Church

Zoravor Surp Astvatsatsin Church, also known as the Church of the Holy and Mighty Mother of God, was founded in the 9th century. It was rebuilt in 1632–1635, destroyed by an earthquake in 1679, and reconstructed again in 1693–1694. It is now one of the oldest surviving churches in Yerevan.

Originally known simply as Surp Astvatsatsin, it later received the name Surp Zoravor because the miraculous Zoravor Gospel was kept here. The church stands in the Shahar quarter of old Yerevan on the site once occupied by the tomb and chapel of Saint Ananias, an important medieval pilgrimage destination.
