Bayazid Tower. Bayazid Tower, located in the Beyazit district of Istanbul's European side, is situated on the grounds of Istanbul University. This 85-meter-high tower has four floors and 260 wooden steps, with each floor having its own unique name. It was built from rare snow-white marble in 1828 by order of Sultan Mahmud II by architect Balyan as a fire observation tower. Bayazid Tower is an example of Neo-Ottoman architecture and was last restored between 1997 and 1999.
