Gelarsan-Gyorarsan Fortress

Gelarsan-Gyorarsan is an ancient fortress, the ruins of which can be found on the bank of the Kish River, four kilometers from the city of Sheki, on the summit of Mount Karatepe. It is believed that the fortress was built in the 8th-9th centuries and is located northeast of the village of Kish. In 1744, a shah with a large army attempted to capture the fortress but could not overcome its defenses and was forced to retreat. After this event, the fortress became known as Gelarsan-Gyorarsan.
