German Fountain

The German Fountain (Turkish: Alman Çeşmesi) is a historic structure in the center of Istanbul, located in Sultanahmet Square. This fountain is one of the city's main attractions and was a gift from the Ottoman Empire to the German Empire in honor of Kaiser Wilhelm II's second visit to Istanbul in 1898.

The fountain's design was developed by German architect M. Spitta, and construction was supervised by architect Schöle. The fountain was manufactured in Germany and then transported to Istanbul in parts and assembled in its current location. It was originally planned to open the fountain on September 1, 1900, the 25th anniversary of Sultan Abdul Hamid II's reign, but due to delays, it was opened on January 27, 1901, on Wilhelm II's birthday.
