Monastery of the Life-Giving Spring

The Church of the Life-Giving Spring, also known as the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi, is an Orthodox church and monastery belonging to the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. It is located next to a revered Orthodox spring in the Balikli quarter of the Zeytinburnu district of Istanbul, Turkey. Originally, the building constructed here in the 5th-6th centuries was destroyed by the Ottomans in the 15th century. A new building, erected in 1835 on the same site, also bears the name of the Life-Giving Spring. The church is associated with the tradition of venerating the icon of the Life-Giving Spring, making it a pilgrimage site for Orthodox believers.
