Mullah Ahmed Gurani Mosque

The Church of St. Theodore is a late Byzantine church located in the Vefa district of Istanbul. It was built during the Komnenian and Palaiologan periods and is an important example of Constantinopolitan architecture. In fact, almost nothing is known about the ancient history of the temple, and even its dedication remains a mystery. Judging by the construction materials, the church was erected during the reign of Alexios I Komnenos or slightly later. After the fall of Constantinople, it was converted into a mosque and became known as the Molla Gürani Mosque, in honor of its founder. It is interesting that Mullah Gürani, the teacher of Mehmed II and the first mufti of Istanbul, lived and worked here.
