Novorossiysk Stele and Viewpoint

At the road out of Novorossiysk toward Kabardinka and Gelendzhik stands the “Novorossiysk, Hero City” stele. A winged angel atop a granite column holds a three-masted ship above its head, while a fountain at the base bears the words, “Through labour are blessed the fruits of Land and Sea.” The city’s coat of arms with a double-headed eagle crowns the monument, which is illuminated at night. A nearby viewpoint overlooks Tsemes Bay, Novorossiysk, Kabardinka and ships waiting offshore in the Black Sea. Parking, a coin-operated binocular viewer and seasonal souvenir stalls are available.

Festivals and concerts are held near the stele. Sunrise and sunset are especially striking from the viewpoint, when golden light spreads across the bay and port. Some visitors camp nearby to watch the city lights after dark.
