Peri Fortress

Peri-kala is an ancient fortress located northwest of the village of Yukhary Chardaglar in the Zagatala region of Azerbaijan. There are several versions regarding its construction period: some claim it was built in the 3rd-4th centuries, while others believe it was built in the 12th-13th centuries or even at the end of the 14th century. By decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Peri-kala is recognized as an architectural monument of national significance. Historian Muhammad Hajiakhmedov asserts that the fortress was erected in the 4th-5th centuries during the Sasanian period. A distinctive feature of Peri-kala is that it is carved directly into the mountain, which sets it apart from other fortresses in Azerbaijan.
