Prophet's Cloak Mosque

The Hırka-ı Şerif Palace was built by Sultan Abdulmecid in 1267 (1851) for the purpose of preserving and visiting the Prophet's cardigan, which, according to legend, was gifted to Veysel Karani (Uways al-Qarani). After Veysel Karani's death, Hırka-ı Şerif remained in the possession of the Uwaysi dynasty, who are said to have descended from his brother. It is known that at an indeterminate time, this dynasty came from Iraq to Western Anatolia under the leadership of Ziver el-Uwaysi and settled in Kuşadası, where they engaged in agriculture and belonged to the knightly class.
