Akhmat Pasha Mosque

A former Eastern Orthodox church, built hundreds of years ago, was converted into a mosque in the 16th century. This former temple of John the Baptist was built around the 12th century and after the conquest of Constantinople was turned into a mosque. In the 13th century, it was decided to demolish the temple to build the Fatih Mosque, but the Patriarch decided to make it his residence. In 1590, the Janissary aga closed the monastery here and converted it into the small mosque of Hirami Ahmed Pasha.
