Alara Castle

Alara Castle, also known as Alara Kalesi in Turkish, is a historical fortified structure built during the Byzantine Empire. In the 11th century, the castle became the western outpost of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia and served to protect caravans from robbery. Caravans used to stop at the Alarahan caravanserai on the Silk Road to the sea, which was located in close proximity to the castle.

The castle consists of a citadel surrounded by outer walls. To enter the castle, one must climb approximately 180 steps carved into the rock. Midway up the stairs, there is a recess leading to a cistern. Within the citadel, amidst the ruins, one can find a palace, living quarters for the garrison, a mosque, and a bathhouse. This place is an important historical monument and attracts many tourists with its unique architecture and history.
