Ancient City of Hamaxys

Hamaxys, a renowned ancient city located in eastern Pamphylia or western Cilicia, was celebrated for its convenient port for ships and abundant cedarwood for shipbuilding. It is believed that Hamaxys might have been the same place as Anaxion, Anaxium, or Amaxian, mentioned in an ancient text as being west of Korakesion. According to Strabo, the city was among the gifts bestowed by Mark Antony upon Cleopatra. Its location is approximately determined to be near Sinekkalesi, in Asian Turkey, where archaeological findings, including walls and gates, can still be observed.
