Dubai Marina District

Dubai Marina is one of the city’s most recognisable districts, built around a man-made yacht harbour. Around two hundred high-rises occupy a relatively compact area designed as a centre of modern maritime tourism. In 2020, a new yacht club, marina and cruise terminal were added to the eastern side, further strengthening its nautical character. The district stretches along the Persian Gulf coast, with Palm Jumeirah nearby and Bluewaters Island on the opposite side. An artificial canal runs through the entire Marina and connects to the sea at two points. One end meets Sheikh Zayed Road, while the other faces the water. Visitors are drawn to the seven-kilometre Marina Walk, lined with skyscrapers and greenery. Pier 7 is another favourite: a seven-storey restaurant tower offering cuisines from around the world and views over the harbour. In the evening, the pedestrian bridge linking both sides of the Marina glows especially beautifully, like a fine neon line above the water.

Dubai Marina has several striking stories that have become part of its identity. Every winter, a shopping festival on nearby Bluewaters Island features a spectacular drone show, best viewed from the local beach as illuminated figures move above the water. In 2015, the district made headlines worldwide when “Spider-Man” Alain Robert climbed Cayan Tower without safety equipment, relying only on adhesive pads on his fingertips. It is hardly surprising that Dubai Marina has become a popular setting for international film productions: its skyscrapers, lights and futuristic rhythm already look like a scene from a movie.
