Greek Church of Ayia Yorgi

The Church of Ayia Analipsis is a Greek Orthodox church located in the Samatya neighborhood of Fatih, Istanbul, Turkey. It is known that a church has existed on this site since the Byzantine Empire, but the exact date of its construction is unknown. In 1578, Stephan Gerlach visited this church and mentioned it in his travelogue, and Trifun Karabeinikov claimed that the church was called Panagia Psomathia Machaleta. The current church was built in 1782 on the site of a previous church that had burned down. It is a three-nave basilica and is managed by the Samatya Ayia Analipsis Greek Orthodox Church Foundation.
